Frequently Asked Questions
Who should get assessed?
Children, adolescents and adults can benefit from these assessments, depending on the presenting issues. In most cases, parents are usually encouraged to bring their children for assessments by teachers or other healthcare professionals. If you or others have raised concerns about your child's development, presentation or skills, it may be worth attending an assessment.
What methods are used?
Gold standard and internationally-recognised assessment protocols are followed. This can include clinical interviews, observation of behaviours and standardised assessment tools.
How long does the process take?
Assessments have various components. This usually starts with a parent consultation to discuss the presenting concerns. Assessment time with the child may involve a school observation (30-60 minutes) and 1:1 activities (usually lasting between 4-6 hours). These are split across multiple sessions and multiple days.
What happens after the assessment?
A comprehensive report and recommendations are provided. These are discussed in detail with parents and school staff (with consent from parents).
Is there support after the assessment?
Yes, ongoing support and therapy options are available. This will depend on the outcome of the assessment but parents are always encouraged to provide regular updates and contact me if they have queries or concerns following an assessment.
